What is at stake

North & Central America and the Caribbean is governed by the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF), which has 35 members in the FIFA ranking. At a 48-team World Cup it has 6 places. That leaves 6 to be won on the pitch, plus one more route through the inter-confederation play-off.

If the tournament grows to 64 teams — a proposal FIFA has been studying, see the 2030 guide — the simulator assumes 8 places to win here instead of 6. FIFA has published no allocation for a 64-team edition, so that figure simply scales the current one.

The highest-ranked CONCACAF nation in the 7 October 2026 FIFA ranking is Mexico, 10th in the world.

How the simulator plays it

The 22 lowest-ranked nations start with two-legged ties. The eleven winners join the thirteen highest-ranked nations in a second round of six groups of four, from which the top two of each group advance. The final round is three groups of four, home and away: the top two in each group qualify, six places in all.

The best third-placed side in the final round takes the confederation's place in the inter-confederation play-off.

What is official so far

Concacaf published this format on 6 February 2026. Teams ranked 14th to 35th open with home-and-away ties in September 2027; the second round runs to March 2028; the final round is played in June 2028 and in the September–October window of 2029. With the United States, Mexico and Canada no longer qualifying automatically as hosts, all three have to come through it.

The simulator follows that structure with two simplifications. In the second round each pair of teams meets once rather than home and away. And where Concacaf will have the two better third-placed teams of the final round meet in a play-in in November 2029, the simulator sends the best of them straight to the inter-confederation play-off.

Who qualifies: simulated odds

These figures come from playing the entire campaign 20,000 times with the simulator's own match engine and the ratings in the table. They describe the model, not a forecast of real results four years out: squads change, and the draw for the real groups has not been made. How the simulation works.

Three nations are close to certain: USA (98.5%), Mexico (98.4%) and Canada (95.8%) qualify in at least nine simulated campaigns out of ten.

Favoured but not safe: Panama (77.4%), Costa Rica (75.7%) and Honduras (60.3%).

The real contest is among Jamaica (41.6%), Curaçao (29.8%) and Haiti (22.4%). These are the campaigns where one result changes everything, and the ones most worth playing out yourself.

At the other end, 16 nations qualify in fewer than one campaign in fifty and seven never do in 20,000 attempts. On average the simulation sends 6.3 of these 35 nations to the finals, more than the 6 direct places because of the inter-confederation play-off.

Every CONCACAF nation, strongest first. Qualifying odds are the share of 20,000 simulated campaigns (48 teams) and 10,000 (64 teams) in which the nation reached the World Cup.
